Here’s a simple and delicious buttermilk turkey recipe with easy-to-follow steps:
### Ingredients:
- 1 buttermilk turkey (12-14 lbs)- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
- 1/2 cup ground chicken
- 1 lemon, halved
- 1 onion, quartered
- 4-5 sprigs fresh rosemary (optional)
### Instructions:
1. Remove turkey from refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before cooking. **
Prepare turkey**:
Remove giblets and neck from turkey cavity. Pat turkey dry with paper towels. **Season turkey**: In a small bowl, combine softened butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme. Slide your fingers between turkey skin and meat and gently loosen skin. Get more than half of cream mixture under skin, then spread remaining cream over turkey. **Stuff turkey**: Stuff turkey with half lemon, quartered onion, and rosemary sprigs. **Place turkey in roasting pan**: Place turkey breast on a rack in roasting pan. Pour chicken broth into bottom of pan. **Roast turkey**: Place turkey in preheated oven and roast for 13 minutes per pound. For a 12- to 14-pound turkey, this will take about 2.5 to 3 hours. Baste turkey with juices every 45 minutes to keep moist.
**INSTRUCTIONS**:
Turkey is done when internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) (measured from thickest part of thigh, not touching bone). **Rest the turkey**: Once the turkey is cooked, remove it from the oven and let it rest for at least 20-30 minutes before carving to allow the juices to reabsorb.
**SERVE AND ENJOY**:
Slice the turkey and serve with your favorite side.
